If you use our service to geo personalize your website, you may be wondering how it affects your GDPR compliance. Below is a breakdown of how our service functions.
When a person visits a web page that contains a Geo Targetly script, the script will route the visitor through our servers. We then obtain the IP address of the visitor, referrer URL, current browser URL, browser screen size and other available information in the request header to our server. Using the IP address, we determine the approximate location of the visitor's device and along with the other mentioned information gathered from the visitor, we serve geo personalized content, redirects, popups, notification bars and other forms of output onto your website for the particular visitor.
It is important to note that none of the information we extract from the visitor is stored in our database. We don't profile or store a list of your visitors as we merely 'process' the visitors information on the go to determine the relevant geo personalized output required for the visitor.
Depending on how you setup our service, we may set cookies into your visitor's browser. The purpose of these cookies is to determine if a visitor has 'seen' the geo personalized content, redirects, popups, notifications bars and other forms of geo personalized output from our service previously in the time frame defined by you. This allows our service to determine if the visitor should be shown a personalized output again.
To determine if our service will affect your GDPR compliance and if you require consent from your visitors for geo based website personalization, it is best to seek legal advise as it depends on how you 'package' our service with the rest of your website.
